Course of Style: Dress Alvaro Quiros

In a new wrinkle on the phenomenon known as "scripting" — that is, when a pro golfer's wardrobe is pre-planned by his apparel sponsor at big tournaments — this week Callaway Golf gives fans the opportunity to select the script for its sponsored golfer Alvaro Quiros at the PGA Championship by voting on the company's Facebook page.

The long-hitting Quiros appears in eight outfits from Callaway's spring 2011 apparel collection posted on Facebook through Monday, August 9. He will wear the four ensembles garnering the most votes. The PGA Championship will be held August 12-15 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin.

"We're taking scripting one step further," said Tim Buckman, a spokesman for Callaway. "While other apparel companies have scripted their athletes' attire in advance, this marks the first time that fans have been able to make a determination."

He added that the relaunch of the Callaway apparel line, which is completing its transition away from being produced by Ashworth (now part of TaylorMade-Adidas), will be supported by billboards and advertising on the Sony jumbotron in New York's Times Square.

Developed with apparel partner Perry Ellis International, the new Callaway golf line is a highly technical, performance collection featuring moisture-wicking, stretch, and other performance fabrics. We especially liked the "Chev Pipe Line" and "Chev Pipe" polos, among others, at the website.

While you're there, check out Quiros' pencil whiskers. Those are serious sideburns.

Callaway Diablo Forged Irons

From Golf Magazine (ClubTest, March 2010)

Category: Game-Improvement Irons
We tested: 3-, 6-, 8-iron with Callaway Golf graphite shaft

Company line: "This club produces more distance than other forgings due to its thin, energy-efficient face, an undercut cavity that improves head stability on off-center impact, and a lower, deeper CG for penetrating trajectory. The forged steel body and welded face provide soft, responsive feedback. The face is 25-percent lighter than in the X-22 and has 23 grams more in the perimeter."

Our Testers say:
PROS: High, soft trajectory with 8- and 6-irons; just enough workability to move the ball gently left or right; distance control is a plus; good accuracy, a bit of built-in forgiveness; well-balanced iron facilitates smooth swings; clubhead momentum is beneficial in rough; combination of graphite shaft and forged head gives smooth impact feel.

CONS: Mixed findings for feel, several testers prefer more feedback than they experienced with forged head/graphite shaft combo; 3-, 6- and 8-irons were the only clubs available at the time of testing; many guys want more help with off-center hits.

$999, steel; $1,199, graphite callawaygolf.com

Course of Style: FootJoy making every day playable

This week industry leader FootJoy introduces a new layered golf clothing system, including the company's first compression piece — that is, a tight-fitting undershirt to supply warmth and support — which the company has been testing on tour. The new ProDry compression shirt was designed to be somewhat roomier and less restrictive than other compression garments, according to Whitney Trimble, the director of marketing for FootJoy apparel. It was worn by Steve Stricker in the windy conditions at St. Andrews during the British Open.

"Our goal is to make every day playable,? Trimble said. ?The system makes it easier to play in all conditions with less."

The new FJ Layering System, like other foul-weather golf apparel, consists of three layers: 1) A compression base that provides moisture management and regulates temperature by moving perspiration away from the body ($55). 2) A Performance Half-Zip Pullover, with four-way stretch, for versatility and warmth during dry conditions ($85); and 3) A redesigned DryJoys Tour Collection jacket with the FJ Protect Waterproofing System ($240) or a Rain Shirt, short or long sleeve ($160-180).

The outer layering pieces, a signature component of FootJoy's apparel for years, also have four-way stretch fabric and include rain pants, rain shorts, softshell jackets and vests, and windshirts in color-block patterns. The complete redesigned FootJoy layering system will be available beginning in August.

Augusta National

Pictured Right: sun belt for the cabin of the player. I checked the time and it was dead at 6: 00 pm!

In the light of today in the first round of the 2010 models, and now that I no longer have a master/Augusta National Virgin, I'm going to do a few posts about Augusta National the place. One of the most important things that I enjoy wanted, while the atmosphere of the place. I wanted to get a feel for not only perfect how each blade of grass was cut, the fact that there are 365 acres of land without a weed can be and how incredible the layout of the course was, but a feeling and insight for the little things that people may not know about it.Today's post is aptly titled "Stuff you're not on TV in Augusta National."There are many aspects of the course itself which does not fulfil, or no TV.

What TV cannot come close to showing on Augusta National

Talk to someone who has been running Augusta National and the first thing that they will tell you how to hilly and how much height change there is.They say not the hills, elevation and contours of justice. who said that's right. the course is incredibly hilly. the difference in height from tee to fairway, tee to green on par-3 's and green approach is amazing.

Pictured Right: Masters Chocolate Mini Moon Pie

 Blind or semi-blind approach

Height change of fairway in green on holes as # 1 # 5, # 8 (if you are trying to reach this par-5 in two), # 11, # 15 and # 17 require tee shots go far enough to travel to a point where the green or a part of the whether the pin can be inferred from the approach position. Shorter tee shots will lead to blind or semi blind shots in green.

 Downhill approaches

The seriousness of the descent approach shots is certainly not captured by the TV. On some holes are not in fact. The 2nd hole par-5 will be displayed when the descent on TV, but the severity and the angle of approach does not properly transferred. Hole # 2 and the fall of the Green is pictured below:

Above: # 2 and the decline in the level of 280 to the green.

The fourth hole par-3 (about 240) is a huge downhill shot on TV looks almost level. The problem with # 4 is, above all, that the shot to the right place on the Green carry or it will catch a bunker or roles to a false front and out of the Green bogey country. Par-3 # 6 is serious downhill. I saw Kenny Perry hit shots and they were in the air for a long time. Par 4 9 can also have a serious downhill approach to the Green unless you have a bomber and close to the flatter area at the bottom of the hill can get. # 10 is a huge hole and extremely downhill. Most know is serious downhill, but no matter how HD camera and the TV screens are due, the amount simply do not change. The approach of the # 10 is also a solid downhill shot. When I there are fans, sorry, "patrons" were impressed if a player find themselves as close as 200 metres. The 505 yard par-4 # 11 is known for the difficult descents approach and pretty good on TV will be displayed. The final descent approach of the course is par 5-15. TV doesn't really show how thin the Green looks from the top of the Hill, where players whether or not to go for the debate. a perfect recording is to be implemented with a view, or is it a water ball back links or short.Bail law finds a bunker.

The Greens are not as great as they look on TV

In General, most of the Greens is much smaller than I expected. # 2 is about the only one which is about the size that I thought it would be. # 13 (par-5) is much smaller than I thought it would be. # 17, Jack Nicklaus, where the famous birdie in 1986, is about half as big as I thought it would be.How big do you think # 18?The corner of the TV cameras make one way or another this Green look a lot bigger than it really is.

Large open space

The club house overlooks the tee # 1.Then there is to the left of the Green tee # 9.Further in that direction to # 8, # 2 green tee and a large open space that seems surreal from many quarters.Looking for down from the top of the hill where tee # 1 is to the region and seeing the wide open space and thousands of users is amazing. on the other hand, will see the thumbnails of # 7 green or even # 17 fairway, you all the way through which large open space to the clubhouse. again, seeing all of these bodies and all that space the Hill is an amazing sight.

Buildings

Above: the back side of the cabin Butler

During programmes is all that you hear about the Club House and Butler cab. There are several other buildings that you never see on TV. to the right of the Club House, the direction of # 1 the fairway, several other cabins. the left side of the tee # 10, there are several cabins that never seen on TV. Also, none of the concession stands (where the famous Spanish pepper cheese sandwiches). most of them are very well tucked in areas where they will not be able to see of the course.

Butler cabin, speaking of the buildings, is not small. I expect that it would be, well, a cab. it is probably 3000 + square meters. the first image in this article is the back of the cab Butler.
